On Saturday 30th April we gathered at Blauvelt Park for an Amazing Picnic. The sun shone brightly and warmly and many members and visitors enjoyed the hospitality of Ashley & Chris. The highlight of the day was a roam through their Maze – enjoyed by young and old. Such was the success of the day we are planning another towards the end of the year at a nearby venue.
Once again we attended the Noorat Show in November with a photographic display. This featured photos from two albums we have at our Museum – one of an Empire Day Parade in 1914 and the other of the 1939 Back to Terang Parade. Our books were also on sale on the day. It was great to see such interest in our display and to have former residents reminisce about Terang. We will be there again next November!
In November last we launched our newest book – Panoramas of Terang. This features photos of Terang & district taken with a wide lens camera. Many of these photos were taken by Robert Scott who lived in Terang in his early years before moving to Cobden where he operated a garage. We were pleased to have Robert Scott’s granddaughter, Sue, with us on the day of the launch and she was able to tell us a bit about her grandfather.
The book is available from the Society or at the Terang Post Office for $20.00 each.
On Sunday 25th October we will be having an Historic Homes Walk as part of the History Week celebrations.
Participants will start at 1 pm from our Museum in the grounds of the Terang College Primary Campus, School Rd (turn left at the Presbyterian Church). Here a map will be handed out with the homes to visit.
From the Museum you can drive to any of the homes listed and walk through. Owners will be available to tell you a bit about the history of their home. It will only be a short drive between each of the homes.
The Terang Hospital Auxiliary will be serving Devonshire Tea at one of these homes.
Tickets are $20.00 each and are available at Reicha’s Drapery, High Street, Terang or will be available at the museum on the day.
Our next Sunday Speaker will be Roger Primmer from Terang who needs no introduction to many. Roger has spent his lifetime in Terang and has a lot of interesting stories to tell us. He was formerly the President of the RSL. We look forward to an informative afternoon on Sunday, 23rd August at 2pm at the Elford’s home in Bayne Street. If you would like further details please contact us.

What a great day was had by all who attended the Lone Pine Celebrations at The Sisters on Saturday 8th August. It was a very well organised event with excellent catering, a very moving commemorative service, the launch of Tom Riches’ book on The Sisters Soldiers and a great concert featuring Eric Bogle in the evening. Congratulation are due to all who were involved. Well done to Tom for his excellent publication. A worthy tribute to the men who served in WW1 from The Sisters.
